Water Sustainability Lab

WSS has a state of the art water sustainability laboratory equipped with a set of pilot-scale units for the treatment of wastewater, range of laboratory devices for physico-chemical examination of wastewater and wastewater sludge and a high-performance computer monitoring and control system. Our multi-configurable wastewater treatment pilot plant includes such units as: conical sedimentation tanks, buffer tanks, plug-flow step-feed activated sludge reactor and a sequencing batch bioreactor. It is equipped with state of the art sensors such as MLSS, COD, NH4-N, P-PO4 and SVI.

In our wastewater testing facility we are able to perform chemical, biological and physical testing of water, wastewater and sludge samples. In addition to standard physico-chemical procedures we are able to measure such parameters as: floc-size distribution, resistance to shear, viscosity and rheology of sludge, capillary suction time, specific cake resistance, flocculation ability, sedimentation properties, etc. This equipment allows us to pilot different processes in lab and pilot scale, derive and validate models and to test different control strategies.

We also have access to a bio-chemical laboratory where all standard and non-standard wastewater measurements can be performed. We have access to the following instrumental analysis apparata: scanning electron microscopy, gas chromatography, mass spectrometry, high performance liquid chromatography and others.
